What I have found works to get around it are 2 things -- 1) Keep your foot on the brake until after you shut the engine off. Also, pressing the brake while you jiggle the shifter can help too. Yep, it is a common problem. So many people have this issue. They will want to change the wiring harness. However in most cases that is just a bandaid. The next step is to replace the Control Arm Shift Lever. I don't know why there has not been a recall about this. If you are out of warranty, I would fight to have it covered or at least part of it.GM will likely be able to bury this problem because it appears the problem was identified and later corrected. 2016 - 2018 Malibus and Volts have the same issue, as do 2017 - 2018 Acadias.
