Moonveil scales primaries with int and decently with dex. But it's still roughly 70/30 magic/physical. You don't have to build around Moonveil at all which is why it's so particularly powerful for sorcery builds. Don't even have to push endurance because moonveil isn't heavy. Moonveil and wing of astel both fit perfectly into a sorcery build.

It's still pretty damn OP - they nerfed the crazy posture damage on the weapon art, but it still does tons of damage for its speed/range/FP cost - but there's no reason not to use it if you think it's cool. SONAF is still good, as it should be for a weapon cast that long and a flame wave that can't even hit an enemy if you're half an inch above its head or on an incline.

If you want to get really creative and have some fun try Moonveil in right hand and meteorite katana in left hand. So you still have the weapon art of Moonveil but your light two hand attacks WRECK.

Strictly PvE (but applicable to PvP) and pre-patch, it was the weapon art. Deals massive (ultra greatsword level) damage but comes out much faster, was spammable, poise broke very easily, has poise itself. Pair it with the ring that heals HP and fp on critical hits, and you just spam weapon art on bosses, poise break, crit, repeat.Moonveil is more agile, does a good chunk of damage with or without buffs. Compare to DMGS directly, the main difference is that AOW damage cannot be buffed by Godfrey Icon. Bottomline, DMGS for fights that would end fast (e.g getting all the charged attack in without break). Moonveil if the fight requires faster reaction. moonveil just seems better. the moves come out quick and it's just as strong, if not stronger. unfortunate, because i just got the darkmoon greatsword and love the way it looks. was thinking about respeccing for it, but i can wield it two-handed without the repsec. still might play around with it more or use it for bosses weak to frost. FYI Moonveil did not avoid nerfs. Its stagger damage was significantly decreased, but that wasn't documented in the patch notes. It's now equivalent to the stagger on the Unsheathe weapon art (the default weapon art on the Uchigatana), which is still good but not absurd.
If your build is int focused, you'll likely love this katana and it will decimate. I think its a mandatory weapon for Mages. I have it, used it for a little while, but I went back to strictly using my Carian Regal Staff. I'll probably be way more Moonveil'y in NG+. It’s actually trash bro better just sell it.
