This is one of the biggest myths in trucking. The answer is NO. Using an engine brake has zero impact on the life of your truck. The jakes are simply releasing compression in the engine as a way to reduce the energy being sent to the crankshaft. There is nothing in this process that is harming the engine.
My Jake brakes were working good then they suddenly got week. Manifold pressure is down as well but I believe its a sensor because the truck is running good. Confirmed the computer is seeing all switches working and high/med/low in Cat ET. Computer knows what is should be doing basically. Set the mode to manual in Cat ET. Tested wiring going from valve cover plug to jake solenoids for continuity. Good.
