I have tried multiple speedtest mostly to fiber connection and still only get at max 300 mbs. How many channels on your cable modem up/down do you have - give us the make/model # of your cable modem, and we can find that out. If you don't have the right number of channels, your speed will be limited to an upper amount.
I had a similar issue with my Gigablast Panoramic modem. Worked great for 4 months, then suddenly half speed. Tech visits confirmed my service tested correctly at the modem tap and at the house tap. Replaced modem, and fine, until the next day then half speed again. Replaced it again, and fine for an hour until we rebooted it and then half speed. If it's Fiber, you have to use the indoor ONT they provide (for free), but you can use your own router and get rid of their gateway. If it's Coax, any DOCSIS 3.1 capable modem should work. I'm personally a fan of the ARRIS SB8200, but honestly just get whatever you can find the best price on from a reputable brand. I have my own DOCSIS 3.1 modem.
