To fix the design the event chain should give you a living metal deposit and give you the living Metal Tech.

With the "Here be Dragons" Origin you get a guaranteed Living Metal deposit in the range of two hyperlanes away from your home system. This is very much needed to build the dragon hatchlings later on. The deposit doesn't actually enable the research option for Living Metal thats normally comes with it.
