For the money that these things cost it seems ludicrous that they are really owned by RAM, in the sense that a minor or even non-existent exhaust issue 'disables' the vehicle!!

It's important to be sure which message it is giving. Low DEF and Service DEF have different restrictions that Service Emissions. These are from the '2020 6.6L diesel supplement: Service DEF System.
