There was indeed a model 30-G, and the 'G' indicates a slight modification of the original model 30. This could be something as subtle as screw placement or an improved internal part - precise records of the change are not available.The Glenfield 30A was produced from around 1971/1972 to about 1981/1982 when it became the Marlin Mod 30AS. They are a quality Marlin made under the Glenfield name. They have the hardwood stocks, end cap and one barrel band, dovetailed front sight, and a non-folding rear sight---the rest of the rifle is pretty much the same as the Mod 336.It has to be either a Model 30A or a Model 36G, not a 36A (if it was made in 1965, that should make it the 36G). Either way, it is a Marlin Model 336 action and any Model 336 owners manual that is not for a cross bolt safety version will work. The Model 36G is a Glenfield product that was less expensive than the first line Model 336.
Re: Marlin 30AS vs 336. Receiver & screw holes are the same so yes you can use 336 rail... The differences are mostly cosmetic: furniture (stock) and lack of a barrel-band (30AS has a front-end cap like some other Marlin models)... (See pic for barrel-band vs end-caps styles...)
