While there isn't a hard time limit, there's a narrative time limit. After you do the ivory sanctum, events will push you towards the final zone - and the end of - Act 3. You can ignore these events entirely, but it'll feel wrong. I'd put off the IS until you've done everything else you want to do in the act, personally.
