Yes, a tavern brawler build would work fine. Just note that their unarmored defenses don't stack at all, so you only get EITHER wisdom or constitution to AC, not both. Passives not stacking is fine. A lot of multi-classing brings in redundancies, even then it may be worth considering armor depending on the build. Me have small brane.
