Last year I competed against several CZ457 Varmint models in the AT-1 and Chassis stocks and they were some of the toughest competitors I faced. I have seen several of them win sanctioned matches across the country. I have never seen an MTR win, ever. Mine is the 24" bbl but they come in 16.5" and 20.5" also.Personally, I prefer the CZ 457 platform (with MTR barrels), as I found the fit & finish to be far better than the Tikka & Bergara I tried. Additionally, I am a fan of how easy it is to swap barrels. I also like CZ's aluminum chassis for the CZ 457 (although it is nearly impossible to find these days). The stock is really nice and the accuracy is outstanding. I have two Bergara B14 HMR Wilderness Rifles in 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC . The factory stocks are nice but I have to give the nod to the KRG Bravo if I had to choose between the two stocks. The Bravo stock just fits me a little better. May 30, 2021 · The CZ 457 with the yo dave trigger is really great for the money, and will do well off a bench with the right ammo. The B14-R is very nice in how you can configure it for shooting positional or from a bench. The T1X's always suffer from an ejection issue eventually due to the design and that little spring getting loose. The CZ 457 MTR is around $750 if you want to guarantee yourself a match barrel, otherwise the standard 457's are lottery barrels but they're never worse than a RPRR. B14R is clunky feeling imo.
I've used Vortex PMRs in 1.0" and 1.1" height as well as Athlon medium rings in 1.09" height, all on 20MOA rails. They've all worked fine. I slightly prefer the taller 1.09 and 1.1 inch rings for head position, but the 1.0 inch rings provide plenty of objective clearance on my B14R also. P. As pointed out by PWNolan, it very much depends upon the individual rifle. It also depends upon finding the cartridge that it likes. The MTR and the B14r (steel) may shoot lights out, shoot pretty well or be a dog. A couple of guys I shoot against use the MTR and do quite well.
