Hard to tell the exact serial number, depending on how you hold the gun. If I hold the gun and look at the serial number on the bottom of the handle - and the barrel is pointing to my left the serial number is 60699.

The model 37 Airweight has an alloy frame in blued finish and weighs about 25% less than the standard model J frame revolvers. Check in to getting a Curio & Relic FFL license from BATF. It costs $30 for 3 years. I believe that gives you some added privileges in CA, but you need to ask someone out there if that is correct and what it does for you. I would look for a pre-war .38 M&P revolver.
