I pulled the front tires off and measured for the alignment and it seems ok. Probably not. The bike frame is the ground half of the electrical circuit and with the shift motor not touching the frame, it is missing the return path. So either use a temporary wire from the shift motor housing to a bare place on the frame or touch the housing to a bare portion of the frame.
