Sometimes it comes when just driving in 2wd the other times when shifting into 4wd. I took it to the dealership 3 times so far. The first time they said they replaced all 3 IWE'S.

And the whole point of Ford finally moving away from vacuum actuated IWE was to eliminate the infamous "partial" engagement of the IWE. Turns out it's an IWE issue. The 4x4 wants to engage for a moment and you get metal on metal. There's a TSB on it. They did the work under warranty and replaced the check valves. Do a search on YouTube under F150 IWE noise and you'll find some surprising similarities lol.
